Art in the Landscape
Art enhances the natural landscape at Glen Villa Gardens. Granite sculptures by the internationally renowned sculptors Louise Doucet and Satoshi Saito add elegance and serenity to areas near the house. “Bridge Ascending,” their work referring to an old covered bridge, rises from a farm field to join earth to sky.Pat’s own art works trace the history of the Glen Villa property from the time of the Abenaki Indians up to the present day, underlining the role that memory plays in the landscape. Trails wind through the 750-acre property, from the lake, up the hill, through fern forests and open fields, to the highest spot on the property.
Visitors who walk the trail with an attentive mind take a metaphoric journey through life, from conception, to birth, to death. Trees tell this story. Fallen logs, branches and sections of tree trunks embody the regeneration that occurs in nature.
